About the Management 3.0 Foundation Training

Management 3.0 Book

Agile management is an often overlooked part of Agile transformations. There is a lot of information available for team members, software professionals, and project managers on how to be Agile, but little information for managers and leaders. However, when organizations adopt Agile, not only do team members and project managers need to learn new practices, but managers and leaders must also learn a new approach to managing and leading Agile organizations.

Research shows that “old-style” managers are the biggest obstacle in transitions to an Agile way of working. Furthermore, in an Agile organization, there is no need for “old-style” management. Managers and leaders need to learn what their new role is in Agile organizations.

Attending a Management 3.0 workshop will give people insight into the new role of management in an Agile organization.

Games and Exercises during the Agile leadership training

All topics include at least one game or exercise where the attendees put into practice the ideas of the course in groups of four to six people. The goal is to make sure attendees can apply the topics they learn about the next day in their organization.

After every game and/or exercise, we will look back. This will allow attendees to share what they learned, new insights, or experiences they would like to share. The more people interact and discuss, the more they will learn.

Innovative Management and Leadership Practices

During the workshop, we will discuss and experience many of the popular and effective Management 3.0 practices. Attendees will learn about and experience some of the following practices:

  1. Moving Motivators, moving Motivators can help you to learn about what motivates people and teams. Use this information, as manager or leader, to create a system where they can motivate themselves;
  2. Delegation Poker and Delegation Board, use Delegation Poker to clarify who’s responsible for what and to what level. This is a method where you can encourage employee engagement through controlled self-organization and clarified value and decision-making;
  3. Values Stories, how can storytelling help you to discover the values of an organization, or compare the espoused values with the enacted values;
  4. Culture Books, what are culture books, and how can they support an organization in growing their values.
  5. Team Competency Matrix, how to identify expertise gaps both individually and as a team to ensure that everyone’s needs are met;
  6. Exploration Days, how to explore new ideas by fostering continuous learning and development within your teams
  7. Meddlers Game, facilitate discussions about organizational structure, visualize the organization, try out practices without actually already moving people around. Grow your organization naturally;
  8. Celebration Grid, whether we succeed or fail, what’s important is to learn from our experiments and celebrate learning;
  9. Kudo Cards, how can Kudo cards support your organization in giving feedback to each other?
  10. Merit Money, reward people, based on real merits instead of imagined performance, co-workers reward each other directly without the involvement of managers;
  11. Feedback Wrap, give actionable feedback, the kind that leads to positive, self-motivated action and not disgruntled teammates.
  12. Change Management Game, the game doesn’t give you answers. It raises questions. Why? Because questions force us to self-reflect. Questions make us take a step back, look inwards, and delve into why we do what we do.
